Leaving Arizona
Heading East
Fare thee well to the winter homes. As the heat in the desert increases, folks leave for cooler climes. Everywhere you go, you hear the desert denizens mantra, ‘See you down the road’. This is sometimes true. Some folks you will never see again, and this saying is sometimes said when you don’t want it to be true. Under your breathe there is a muttered and muted, ‘not if I see you first’. It reminds me of when folks from the south say ‘well bless your heart’ meaning your heart needs help cause you are not using your head.
Day One, just to go a bit slow at the start and work up tp longer days’ driving, we stopped in Kingman, AZ for an overnight stay at the CrackerBarrel. Not a favorite place to stop as they kept the music on till the wee hours of the morning. Kept KrisP awake.
Day Two, we stopped in Williams, AZ for pie and decided to spend the night as it was to be a tiny bit warmer than Flagstaff that night. So we had pie not once but twice. The next morning, after arriving in Flagstaff we got bagels to go and headed for our overnight stop in Chambers, AZ.
Day Three and Four - Many of you may have heard the name ‘Tye-Dye Janet’ and know of the ‘Nomads Helping Nomads’ group. Also you may have heard of the intentional community called ‘Luna Gaia’ located in Chambers, AZ. We spent 2 nights there before leaving Arizona and arriving in Albuquerque, NM.
Day 5 Albuquerque, NM - We met up with Joel B. For lunch and great conversation. KrisP and he had not yet met and their introduction was fabulous. We ate at the Cracker Barrel near Coors Blvd. As it was a Tuesday, I had the special and we all enjoyed KrisP’s discovery of good fried okra. It’s her kryptonite, she got her 3 sides and I got one which I gave to her as well. She has pronounced it as good! No small praise. She shared the story of one town’s restaurants where she sampled okra and declared one the winner. The place changed their out door sign to reflect her approval.

I enjoyed this! The “see you down the road” line made me smile, and the fried okra story gave me a good laugh. Wishing you and KrisP safe travels, good conversations, and plenty more pie and memorable stops along the way.
I wish I'd known you were going to be in Albuquerque. I live in Santa Fe. Would have. loved to come down and meet you. I'm KrisP subscriber. Happy Trails!
