Summertime...
and the Living is easy, on Easy Street and as a Nomad still traveling.
Here we are in April already. There are less than 2 weeks
till the end of the LVTA season and the packing up of the campsite. Summer is coming. It has already been ‘too HOT’ for a couple of weeks. The A/C at the house is very nice. Because there is no furniture in the bedroom, (and no funds for getting a bed etc) we still go to our vans to sleep. For me, my bed in my van is a luxe nest. I love my bed.
Being in sticks and bricks is still a bit surreal. Running water is something special. So is a flush toilet. I am reminded of being in an air bnb or on an extended vacation. This will likely change as I go to my summer volunteer position in Vermont. (The real vacation) I have brought a few things to the house. KrisP also has put some of my things on display. The pups seem to have adjusted well to the new space. They love all the bunnies running around.
I have organized the pantry. My spices have a home again. Out of storage has come the mixer, the bakeware and the knife block. We are using my good silverware. I sharpened KrisP’s knives. I still need to unpack the Cuisinart stuff and the accessories for the mixer, also the glassware.
I am also getting acquainted with my new studio space. I moved the contents of the camp tent to the studio and set up tables. I don’t want to move too much in ‘cause this fall we will do the wall insulation. So for now there are tables defining the spaces and work areas and a tentative floor plan.
This week I will also move the ‘Tea House Tent’. I am in the middle of my role as head student. I have created and offered 3 talks, with another 3 to be given this month. There is much love being shared. The tea tent will be re-set up on the property here at Easy Street. For now I am using either the kitchen table or one set up on the porch, neither of which is conducive to having dedicated space for ritual and roles.
In June, in Massachusetts I will be attending a Vipassana 10 day retreat. Ten days without computers, cell phones, and with silence, no books or journals, no nonverbal communication. Just sitting, breathing, and eating simple meals. Sounds easy till you add focused self awareness of each breath and how it feels in your body.
In July, I hope to reconnect with the Moving Violations Motorcycle Club members, I have my leather jacket with patches to pass on to a current member. Our calendars have us meeting in P-Town my birthday weekend. Other than these two things the summer will be for connecting with friends of old and even some Sangha members in the New England area.
Mid-September will include a return to the desert and ‘Q’ where we will again find ourselves coming home. To sticks and bricks and hopefully at least a bed. Well, a mattress would also be nice.

As a house sitter, I always had a blowup air mattress that was sometimes much more comfortable comfortable than the peoples bed at the house I was staying staying. Not expensive Walmart just an idea for temporary situation.
